AniFam Search Tips: Find Any Title in Seconds

Search looks simple, but a few habits make it far faster. This guide covers partial names, genre filters, and what to do when a title does not appear.

Search Basics

Type the title as it is commonly known, and check the poster cards before opening a result, since similar names exist across series, movies, and remakes. The AniFam anime app search bar finds titles by name, and the genre shelves narrow the catalogue when only a mood is known. A search that returns too much is better than one that returns nothing, because a result can be judged by its poster and description.

Partial Names and Spellings

When the full title is uncertain, type the distinctive word only, and try the common spelling variant if the first try fails. Long titles often share a first word, so a short, distinctive fragment beats a long, half remembered title. If a title is known by a short name among fans, try that short name too. Using Genre and Format Filters

When search returns a wall of results, narrow by genre from the genre screen, or by format, series versus movie. A viewer who wants a film should not wade through series results, and a viewer who wants a long series should not wade through films. Genre tags on a liked title page are also a search in disguise: follow a tag to similar titles. For a neighbouring topic, see AniFam Safe Install Checklist: 6 Checks Before You Tap Install.

When a Title Does Not Appear

A missing title may be listed under a different name, may be absent from the catalogue, or may be temporarily unavailable from its source. Try the alternate name, check the recently added shelf for new arrivals, and add the title to a tracker list so it can be found later. Searching the same wrong spelling five times will not change the result.

Quick Answers

Why does my search return nothing?

The title may be listed under a different name, or the spelling may differ. Try a distinctive fragment or the common short name.

How do I narrow too many results?

Use the genre screen or the series versus movie format to filter, or follow a genre tag from a liked title.

What if a title is missing entirely?

It may be absent from the catalogue or temporarily unavailable. Add it to a tracker list and check again later.
